5 Most Common Pricing Mistakes

1. You don’t know your competition
This doesn’t mean copying their prices, but you should know the general range. If you're charging twice as much, you need to be able to justify it. If you're cheaper, clients might assume your quality is lower.

2. Your price list is outdated
Inflation, experience, demand... Your rates should grow along with your skills and market conditions. Set regular calendar reminders to review and update your pricing.

3. You don’t address late payments
Always agree on clear payment terms and late fee policies. Money should arrive on time—delays can seriously impact your cash flow.

4. You accept “for experience” projects
Barters or reference-based deals can be okay, but define your limits. Work for free only when you decide it brings value—and be sure you’re compensated in other ways.

5. You don’t track your time
Without knowing how much time your work actually takes, it’s hard to set accurate prices. Time tracking is essential for smart pricing.
